Tesu or Dhak or Palash or Flame of the Forest or Butea Monosperma has many medicinal uses, but we will test it out in a batch of Cold process soap for its coloring properties. One of my aunts still collects it dilligently to make dyes to play Holi with.
This bunch of dried Tesu flowers is acquired from a beautiful Himalayan Weavers shop in the hills of Dhanaulti near Mussoorie. Of course they use the dyes to color their Pashminas and Wools. I am going to try to see if the dye will withstand the strong Lye in our cold process soap recipe.
